Long time ago the Falun Mine was the biggest copper mine in Europe and known as Sweden’s treasure chest. The mine was closed in 1992, mining had been going on for 1000 years. Today Falun Mine, as a part of the Falun World Heritage site, is on Unesco’s World Heritage List because it is considered so valuable that it is a concern for the whole of humanity. The Mine Museum, which houses an exhibition about the birth of the mine and the Little Mining Village – experiments and stories for the whole family – is open between the 6th June and 13th September and thereafter every weekend in september.
Guided tours in swedish and english are held around the mine all year round. In the summer the guided tours are even held in german. The tours are held every day between 1st October and 30th April Tuesday to Friday at 2 pm, Saturday and Sunday at 10.30 am, 12 pm and 2 pm. Some days there will be extra guided tours for children and familys like at holidays.
